[UPDATE: I released all the project files used to create this level for public use!]
The Massassi Level Pack Contest Entries are officially relased! Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the contest!
You can download "The Lost Mercenary" here:
I just made this my submission to the MLP6. And YOU should do so, too!
(Submit your OWN stuff that is.)
There's too much work waiting to be done out in the real world. JK editing is still being held back substantially as I try to catch up with all the other things going on. There isn't much to say about the project right now other than: New screenshot, enjoy!
I decided to go with the more classic Ice Planet, rather than the purple wasteland. There will be exterior sections to the episode and having Kyle wander through purple glowing canyons just looks a little too toxic. Now desolate freezing snow ranges - that's way less dangerous!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still working on this project and that the first level is close to being finished. There should be a total of three to four levels.
The levels themselves will be rather short, so posting too many screenshots may spoil a lot.
There's also a new working title "The Lost Jedi". It fits the plot nicely, but sounds awfully generic. I'd really like some feedback on that one...
After shuffling various concepts around for a while, I finally settled for a rather classic approach. (Still no title, though...)
Here are a few plot details:
- The player will control Kyle Katarn.
- The story will be set a few years after the events of the original Jedi Knight.
- Kyle is a prisoner of the Remnant Empire.
- The plot involves an ancient Jedi Artifact.
The entire project is being built with a strict rule of "quality over quantity". The final product will consist of shorter, highly detailed levels, tied together by in-game cutscenes.
You may remember that I published this unfinished level in here a while ago. I have since seen parts of it used in various projects, which I am very grateful for.
I reviewed the release and revised the Opening Crawl to adhere to the rules of this site. The new release does not include any copyrighted material not present on the original JK CD.
The Crawl is still fully intact! If you are looking for an intro that does not violate the rules, look no further. I would be honored to see parts of this level used in many projects to come...
Everything is proceeding surprisingly well. I didn't have a lot of time to do any JK editing lately, but I still manage to regularly add one or the other new area. The first level is now about 40% done. Progress is slow, but so far steady, and weekly updates keep me motivated.
Everything is still 100% compatible with vanilla JK, no patches or anything. (I personally use JKE, but it is so far not required to play the level.)
The plot was changed once again, but right now all I can say is that the player will control Kyle Katarn. More on that in the future...
Not much to show, except for a few new 3dos. I plotted the entire episode and have a very good idea of where I want to take this project, now if only I had more time to actually build stuff...
I'm currently working on the garbage disposal area. I'll have new screenshots as soon as they're ready.
I decided to post these updates early on weekends instead of mondays. So technically this is still Week #1...
The project is coming along slowly but steadily so far. (I remember claiming that about a few other projects, too)
I have a rough outline of where I want the episode to go and what levels/areas have to be done in order to achieve that. The entire episode will be set on an asteroid serving as a /prison-/mining-/research facility.
I'm currently looking into interesting set pieces (especially old trilogy, but anything will do) and boss fights, any ideas?
I have decided to keep myself focused by introducing a weekly update schedule. Each monday will bring at least one new screenshot and a brief status update.
The premise so far:
"The protagonist, a former mercenary turned rebel spy, had been an imperial prisoner for over three years, when a mysterious benefactor offers him one dangerous chance at freedom..."
The project is intended to be a classic, action-heavy Jedi Knight Episode, set in a remote prison-/mining colony. I would also like everyone to check out the forums for more irregular updates.
This begins as yet another Jedi Knight Single Player project with an uncertain direction.
I am currently kicking around two very different plot ideas for this:
One is the undisclosed "Underwater Station"-plot IN SPACE, while the other is a more conventional and action-heavy "Imperial Prison Break" adventure.
But thus far, all I got are a few generic hallways. Let's see if there's ever going to be more...
No. I'm just wasting a little more time with this project... making only very small progress, so don't expect anything to actually come from it.
I just can't stop editing.
Ok, I'll make this quick.
Real-life got me and I don't really have time to edit JK anymore (not that I really had any before), which is why I'm abandoning this project.
While I'm not sure what I'll be doing with all my other unfinished project files, my untitled SWProject will be uploaded here.
So if you need a hi-res Star Wars intro (I may upload the .psd for the opening crawl, too), an ISD bridge, a small spaceport or just a few textures, I'd be glad to see my work put to at least some use...
If you need anything else (any other .PSDs of the textures) or have any questions on anything related to this project or any comments, leave a note on this project's forum. I'll try to keep checking it.
I had promised to get back to work on my "Underwater Station" project, but I just love this piece way too much. Since I'm trying to create all things by my self (as much as I can, at least), progress is slow, but somewhat steady. Don't really have that much time to work on JK anymore, so don't expect anything soon (or at all).
I got a 4min Star Wars Intro; no plot so far, but Krugon set as main character. I could use someone to help with character animations (mostly for cutscenes).
No details on characters or plot, as I didn't decide on one yet (trying to make sure that it'll be at least as awesome as the one used for UStation).
That's all I got to say...
Picked up work on this piece a few days ago. It's not a major project and I will certainly not drop "Underwater Station" for this, but it's a nice waste of time.
I still don't have any concepts for this, only a Star Wars Intro and an ISD Bridge. Don't expect anything from this project. However, I'd still like some comments and/or ideas on how to put this work to at least some use.
I just picked up work on this thing. Maybe I'll even get something done this time. No hints on the plot so far, just one more screenshot and this post to let you know that this project is not dead (at least not anymore).
So I finally created a Hub project site for this piece... more news (if there will be any) to come.
Felt like posting some more screenshots... that's about it for now.
