Hope you don't mind I'm making a topic for buggies... hehe

Anyways! Grand idea, I tried it out, and maybe it's my own stupidity, but I'm not getting it to work properly...

I can install the patcher, download the updates, but anything else doesn't seem to work. I get a small window in the bottom right corner of my screen, with several buttons for the patches. However, I'm not really sure what clicking these buttons does (or makes undone)... Also, I don't know if they have on or off positions, but if so, I can't see the difference. When I click one, my computer does something and I get back to the main JK patcher window, but clicking 'Play Jedi Knight' doesn't do anything except for taking me back to the little screen in the corner with the buttons. No matter what I try, I can't launch JK. I don't understand what the 'patched status' of my JK currently is, and the worst thing is that I can't launch JK anymore whatsoever, not even when I exit JK Patcher.

Is this all my own fault? I'm curious.... I'd very much like to see my JK working again... eheh.

Hrmmm........ Sounds like something went wrong when it went to patch the exe. Is there a JK.exe.bak in your JK Patcher directory? If so, rename that to JK.exe and put it back under Jedi Knight. If not, grab JK.exe off of one of your JK CDs. (Under GAMEDATA I think) Then, run JK Patcher with the /reset command line parameter, (JKPatcher.exe /reset) and click the reset button that is on the Loading window. That will delete the JK Patcher registry settings, and redownload the patches.

What JK Patcher does is apply the patch, run JK, then unapply the patch. This will change in beta2 or 1.1 or whatever, to two copies of JK.exe with each patch. No patching on the fly will occur. Plus there will be a few new features. The main biggest window served a higher purpose, but I had to rewire things at the last minute. The tinier window will pop up now instead of the big one when you start JK Patcher or select 'Jedi Knight' from the tray menu.

Man, I can't gets no breaks from unhandled errors at all.

Would it be better to replace the old jk.exe, or to have a separate exe and make it so that you should always start jk through the patcher/launcher if you want to run the modified exe? I think it would be best to just keep a separate exe that the patcher will always use, rather than messing with copying files around.

Hm, well I already tried uninstalling JK Patcher as well as JK itself, then I reinstalled JK, and it's still not working. I guess I'm going to have to reinstall JK Patcher and try what you described. Although I'm not sure what you mean with running it with the reset command line... is that command line I can fill in in JK Patcher, or a command line for the shortcut to JK Patcher itself? Sorry if this is a silly question, but all I know about JK Editing is how to make levels in Jed. lol

PS. I feel your pain

[Edit] Perhaps it went wrong because I had already manually installed the thing/adjoin limit patch. I was also having trouble with that, because I couldn't get JK to run with the original .exe anymore after patching it. I think something is messed up in my registry because of the manual patch install, but I have no idea how to fix it. I know nothing about registry settings.

Ok, this is the error message.

It says 'Cannot correctly start application. (0xc0000142) Press OK to exit application.'

The error code is for DLL initialization failure. One of JK Patcher's DLLs must not be working.

Ok, well, I hope this is helping you making the program work better.

Zeq was so kind to help me fix my JK.

Ok, I got my JK working again (without JK Patcher). But this might be interesting:

I downloaded and installed the mousewheel utility, so I could use it seperately (without JK Patcher), and when I launched JK, I got that same error message again. So it might be the mousewheel's dinput.dll that is causing the problem instead of JK Patcher itself. I took out 'dinput.dll' and then JK worked again. (Without Mousewheel utility ofcourse). However, I am reluctant to test JKPatcher again without the mousewheel utility, because I don't want to screw up my JK again. It's something for you guys to look into though.

Hope this helps.

I don't get that error with mousehweel. Try updating DirectX, 9.0c Feb2006 works fine for me.

Woohoo! It's the dinput.dll!

You can run JK Patcher with no problems. Just install it, run it, then take out dinput.dll from \Jedi Knight\

So far you're the oddball ZZ Razz Mr no want JK installed.

Ok, does this mean there will be a new version of the dinput.dll, so I/we can use the mousewheel application together with JKPatcher after all?

Well, there might not be a newer version, unless Sige takes a whack at it or makes the source available.

For now, have you tried installing the latest version of directX?

Well, I looked it up and noticed it's almost a 200 Mb download. I Didn't know DirectX was that big nowadays. =\ Anyone have a good link?
